Who ChatGPT names
Share of shelf is the percentage of answers a brand appeared in. It is not a rank of quality or sales — it is how often the model brought the brand up when someone asked about electrolyte and hydration powders.
- 1 Ultima Replenisher 62%
- 2 Liquid I.V. 51%
- 3 LMNT 51%
- 4 DripDrop 40%
- 5 Pedialyte 35%
- 6 Cure 17%
- 7 Skratch Labs 16%
- 8 Just Ingredients 15%
Where the offers come from
Every product ChatGPT showed came from somewhere. Brand-direct means the offer pointed at the brand's own store rather than a retailer.
- Walmart 33%
- Target 30%
- LMNT (direct) 12%
- CVS 7%
- Hydrant (direct) 2%
- Pedialyte (direct) 2%
How the shelf gets built
47% of the offers here arrived through a product feed rather than a page crawl, and about 68 brand-direct products from a dozen small challengers, under 1% of the shelf.
The fed offers cluster at the top — half of the first-choice offers ChatGPT hands you are fed, against about a third at the bottom of the shelf. Being in the feed and sitting in the top slot travel together here. Most of that volume belongs to Target, Walmart and CVS rather than brands.

How we measured this
- We asked ChatGPT 3,373 shopping questions about electrolyte and hydration powders in July 2026. The questions never named a brand, so nothing here was prompted into the answer.
- Questions were repeated. ChatGPT does not answer the same way twice, so a single ask tells you nothing — share of shelf is the pattern across all 3,373 of them.
- We recorded every brand mentioned and every product offer shown, 21,449 offers across 208 brands.
- This is one engine, one country, one point in time. It is a snapshot of a shelf that moves.
Questions about the method, or think a number is wrong? Tell us — we will check it against the raw data and correct the page.
